Music Programming
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County currently offers music creation and production
to all of its members during after-school hours. Programs take place at both our Central Clubhouse
and at our North End Clubhouse, where there is a 150-square foot room with music production equipment, including a computer with LogicPro, two speakers, and a condensed microphone.

Music Production in Action

After crafting homemade instruments
out of various materials in the FabLab, Club teens recorded a cover of
"Riptide" by Vance Joy featuring
the instruments they fashioned
earlier in the day.
Our recording studio, featured in the photo to the right, is a space where
Club members can go to learn more
about music production including recording and editing songs.

Field Trips & Visits
2023 Newport Folk Festival
On July 27, 2023, over 150 campers, counselors and guests at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County’s Camp Grosvenor were treated to a live performance by JT Harris, musician and performer at this past weekend’s Newport Folk Festival. “The Festival is like summer camp for grown-ups,” JT told the audience, “so this is the first day of camp for me.” In addition to singing and playing the banjo, JT asked the kids to name some animals, which he incorporated into a song on the spot. The slate included the usual nominees like lions and sharks as well as the out-of-the-box suggestions of dinosaurs and cockroaches. Afterwards, JT gave the campers the opportunity to hold and play a banjo.
For over ten years,
Newport Festivals Foundation has supported the Boys & Girls Club with live performances and funding for music programs. Thank you, NFF and JT Harris, for this great opportunity and continuing the tradition!
2022 Newport Folk + Jazz Festivals
The Newport Festivals Foundation made an appearance at our summer camp, Camp Grosvenor, with musicians Steve Cerilli and Bill Cote kicking off the Newport Jazz Festival at the camp's waterfront with an inspiring performance.
Our kids and teens had a blast listening to the guest musicians and had the opportunity to join in with maracas, tambourines, their voices, and dance moves, while Steve shared stories about songwriting and starting out his music career at a very young age with pillows and buckets as his instruments.

The Club is grateful to have been Newport Festival Foundation's special guests at the opening of the
2022 Newport Jazz Festival. Its partnerships like this help make Great Futures happen for our Club Members.
