Summer Camp Activities

Camp Grosvenor - Our Programs


Monday through Friday, children from many diverse backgrounds between the ages of 5 and 13, enjoy daily activities in the following areas:
 
Arts & Crafts
Painting, collage, sculpture, and a weekly digital art project in the technology lab
 
Biking
Youth ages 11-13, and our LITs can enjoy mountain biking through our extensive wooded trails
 
Boatbuilding
Our LITs will participate in a hands-on learning experience on building and restoring boats
 
Boating and Sailing
Canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and now sailing! are all available on the Pettaquamscutt River 
 
Nature Appreciation & Gardening
Nature walks, camping, outdoor cooking, trail blazing, and fire safety. New this summer: we will be growing an organic garden with vegetables and flowers!  Also, a new chicken coop has been added with egg-laying hens!
 
Dance and Drama
Dance, skit comedy, improvisation, talent shows and plays
 
Outdoor Camping
Once a week, a different group of campers will be able to sleep over in an authentic teepee, cook on an open fire, and look at the stars
Sports and Games
Softball, lacrosse, archery, soccer, New Games, basketball, football
 
Summer Reading
Reading skills, book discussion, and performances based on weekly themes. Taught by certified teachers.
 
Swimming
Daily recreational and instructional swimming, as well as water carnivals are enjoyed by the entire camp on our waterfront on the Pettaquamscutt River
 
Adventure Course
Recently, we installed a low and high ropes course, designed by Project Adventure professionals. Youth participate in team building group activities as well as challenging solo adventures like rock climbing on our 60 ft double helix climbing tower. Outside groups may rent the course and hire instructors May-June and September-October, please call Lauren Schmieg:            401-847-6927       x 22.
 
Special Events
Throughout the summer, campers and counselors participate in a variety of fun-filled theme days, all-camp events, and field trips.

Tween Program
Ages 11 - 13
In addition to participating in all general camp programs, field trips, and special events, we have four weeks of unique programming specifically geared for the adventurous tween.  Tweens can participate in an intensive program based around a specific theme and may include more in-depth skill–building, team-trust activities, and/or additional field trips. 
 
 2012 Tween Theme Weeks:
July 2-6: Challenge Ropes Course
Tweens will spend 2-3 hours per day on high and low elements of our Challenge Course
 
July 23-27: Water Adventure Week
 Includes Junior Lifeguard training, afternoon kayaking/canoe trip, fishing trip, plus, much more.
 
August 6-10: Bike Trip Week Includes an overnight biking trip to a local state park, plus much more!
 
August 20-24: Outdoor Adventure Week
Includes a multi-day overnight camping trip to the mountains.  There is an additional fee on top of the normal weekly fee for this week and is invite-only. 
 
CIT programs
Teens 14-15 can apply to become an CIT: a counselor-in-training. This program focuses on the transition from camper into future camp counselors, lifeguards, & program leaders.  CITs receive a stipend for participation in this program. 

Program highlights include Team Building, Understanding Campers, Certifications & Trainings, Program Planning, Leadership, Behavior Management, and Health & Safety.
